Nature of the Ministry: Overseas missions; Bible translation.
Prayer Requests: Penny translation project: To complete translations in the Books of Exodus and Acts before leaving on furlough in the Spring of 2004. Also, personal witnessing opportunities.
Financial Information: New Tribes Mission does not demand a definite amount of support before going to the field, however, the recommended support for a single person in Senegal is $2,400 per month. Penny averages about 85-90% of that. The NWC has supported Penny for 21 years in Senegal.
Personal notes: Born and raise in Sayre, PA. Saved in the Nichols Baptist Church; After High School attended New Tribes Bible Institute in Jackson, Michigan; It was there that Penny felt her call to missions. In January of 1982, Penny arrived in Senegal. In November of 1982, she moved to the Dialonke village of Madina-Bafe to help plant a church among the people there. Since there language had not yet been written, one of her first responsibilities was to analyze the language and form an alphabet. Translation and teaching began in September of 1987 and the first believers were born into the family in March of 1989. Penny’s main ministry since that time has been Bible translation, however, due to loss of personnel, she’s also involved with discipling believers. She’s also taken on the job of translating a series of evangelism lessons.
Currently, Penny is in Guinea, West Africa working as a “translation checker” (checking portions of Genesis in the Tanda language and Gospel portions in the Landuma language). When Penney returns to Senegal on February 24th, she will have one more translation check to do before she returns home to the village. That will be to check Hebrews and Philippians in the Budik language. Once home, Penny will return to Bible translation, hoping to complete the Book of Exodus and the Book of Acts before furlough in the Spring of 2004.
